Short-fin mako

The shortfin mako is a beautiful species of shark that can grow to more than 13 ft (4 m) long and has one of the largest brain to body size ratios of any shark. It is one of the fastest sharks, capable of attaining burst swimming speeds topping 45 mph (72 km/hr), and it is known for making spectacular leaps up to 18 ft (6 m) out of the water.

Shortfin makos give birth approximately every three years to up to 25 live pups after a 15-month gestation period. They can migrate thousands of miles in search of mates or prey, which primarily consists of bony fish, including mackerel and swordfish, though they have also been known to take small cetaceans.
